Delirium on SYTYCD?

Howdy, Sandman fans! So, I was watching last week's So You Think You Can Dance, and this was the opening group number on elimination night. All I could think of was Delirium from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. What do you think?

(For some reason I can't embed the video.)

Lol, it even looks like a comic---the black and white dancers with the SPLASH of pink.

How are things with you???

IKR? I love it. Especially the last close-up of the female dancer alone looking decidedly ... unsettled and crazy. :)

We're good here! Baby Brat is running everywhere, and reliably saying the word "cookie" (a valuable word to know, lol). He is calling both me and Mr Brat "daddy" for some reason. He's going through a phase of hating to have his diaper changed, which has inspired some very creative singing and bear shows on our parts to keep him still while wiping his behind. ;) And he's becoming a finicky eater, too, which has necessitated still more puppet shows and spinning tops on the high chair tray to distract him so we can get some veggies into him. Did you have those issues with your boys, and if so what did you do?

How are things with you? :D

Ahhh...the joys of feeding...

A friend of mine had an incredibly finicky child and tried the method of I'm not going to feed her until she's willing to eat what I give her and she gave in on about day 2. Kid was quite happy eating NOTHING, lol.

With my boys it got easier as they got older since you can reason with them better. We've always put whatever we're having on their plate and they have to try it. I wouldn't sweat it at this point---my two have grown up having different likes/dislikes that actually mirror my husband and I (genetic!)---kind of weird. The Youngest likes pie...so I have a partner in crime. ;)

LOL, I can imagine she gave in on Day 2. It's impossible to watch your kid not eating, right? *sigh* I felt the same way.

It's good to hear from another parent that they do indeed grow out of it (with their own likes/dislikes well in hand). I figure if Baby Brat wants to eat cheddar bunnies instead of apples at this point, it won't kill him. And he does still eat the apple/pearsauce we make him, so he's getting some fruit at least. I think Baby Brat is developing quite a sweet tooth, which I definitely had when I was a kid, and Mr Brat still has, so it's probably genetically unavoidable, lol.

Sounds like a good compromise! I have one boy who loves fruit and one who would be happy never eating any. I am the fruit enforcer!

I have a baby related question: Do you know of any good sources for 'safe' baby toys? Ones NOT made in China (no offense!) and of safe gnawing quality? I have a great-nephew on the way in Iran---clothes they have plenty of but safe toys are hard to come by.
Aug. 11th, 2010 06:55 pm (UTC)
I'm not sure about baby safe toys. I have a bunch of Melissa and Doug wooden toys because they use nontoxic paint (you can buy them in most toy stores), but I've been disappointed by them in many ways. The wood often cracks (we have a dry house), the nontoxic paint often chips (I don't want a baby swallowing ANY paint chips, even nontoxic!), and the pegs come out of their glued-in posts. Also, I'm not sure where they were made. It says on their website that most of the puzzles were made in the USA, but I can't verify where their wooden toys were made. Sorry not to be of more help! I'm picky about stuff like that, but so far I haven't found the ideal toy source.

This may sound weird, but are there any Amish or German Baptist communities near you? Perhaps they make wooden toys, dolls, etc. Also, you might be able to locate an online company that makes fabric dolls/stuffed animals out of organic cloth and stuffing.

Good luck!!

ETA: Fixed the bad weblink. Oops!

YES! XD It screamed Delirium! The butterflies, the costume, everything.
Aug. 11th, 2010 05:08 pm (UTC)

I thought of you when I posted this video. ;)

I was just looking at the two drawings I've made of Delirium the other day. It made me want to do more... Maybe I should petition Neil that he write a story with her and I illustrate it? I'm sure he would go for it in a heartbeat. It's not as though he is busy or anything...
Aug. 11th, 2010 05:31 pm (UTC)
I'm sure he has some Delirium stories sitting around just waiting to be illustrated. You know he does. He'd better 'fess up and let you get to work!! :D

BTW, still planning to email you. I should be emailing but instead am on LJ. But we're talking, right? LOL. ;)
Aug. 11th, 2010 05:36 pm (UTC)
Yes, lol! It's a wonder he hasn't contacted me himself. ;)

LJ wants your attention too. It's only fair. :D It's like having you on the phone!
Aug. 11th, 2010 05:54 pm (UTC)
He'd better call you, pronto!!

LJ does need my attention, doesn't it? And this is better than the phone, because we get to use icons, lol.
Aug. 11th, 2010 06:05 pm (UTC)
I'm staring at my phone, willing it to ring!

Icons are like the delicious icing on top of lj.
Aug. 11th, 2010 06:22 pm (UTC)
Ring ring! :D

Oh, I love me some icons. They are yummy like icing. ;) Am actually looking at some right now (Merlin, True Blood, etc.) but so far have not taken any. Though I just resurrected some of my Sandman ones that I had deleted.
Aug. 11th, 2010 06:25 pm (UTC)
LOL! My mother just called when you wrote that. Not Neil by any stretch of imagination, but still pretty well guessed!

Icons are like crack. Once you start you can't quit. ;)
Aug. 11th, 2010 06:35 pm (UTC)
LOL, that's hilarious!! I hope she was calling to ask for something creative, at least. ;)

Oh, I am a crack ho, for sure. Still browsing ...
